BURNT CHURCH - The chief of the Burnt Church First Nation yesterday accused the RCMP of endangering lives during a raid on Tuesday that led to his arrest and that of 15 others. Wilbur Dedam, who had his fishing boat seized during the joint RCMP-Fisheries Department operation, said police officers used tear gas, pointed assault rifles and "deliberately overturned" a native boat. The band is refusing further dialogue with the RCMP. Sergeant Roger Somers, an RCMP spokesman, denied that they rammed the native boat.
