The title of his Inaugural Lecture reads “With Ithaca on My Mind: an Anthropologist’s Journey,” which presents the manifold of different anthropologies that lead to different journeys to different ports and cities. They were currently based on structuralism, symbolic theory, and Marxist social theory. His field work and research interests ranged from places such as Bolivia, Caribbean, Canada, Greece, Spain, and Russia, which are praised around the world as courageous and cutting edge investigations that still influence research on the topics of social organization, rural life, and the effects of drugs on society.
